To celebrate the 256th Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, newly appointed Chair of the RA Trust Batia Ofer, Royal Academician and award-winning architect Farshid Moussavi OBE RA, and RA Trustee member & British broadcaster Clara Amfo, teamed up to co-chair this year’s annual Summer Exhibition Preview Party. The party was held in the presence of Rebecca Salter, President of the Royal Academy of Arts, and Chief Executive, Axel Rüger.
This year’s Summer Exhibition, which provides a vital platform and continued support of the artistic community, was co-ordinated by British sculptor Ann Christopher RA, who, working with the other Summer Exhibition Committee members, explores the theme of Making Space.
As guests entered the Annenberg Courtyard in the evening, all had the opportunity to observe and enjoy a monumental textile sculpture by British artist Nicola Turner. As guests then entered the main building itself, they discovered rooms curated by the Royal Academy’s members, the Royal Academicians. This included the Architecture Rooms, which for the first time were curated by London-based, multi-disciplinary collective Assemble RA, the first group to be recognised as a Royal Academician.
The Summer Exhibition’s annual Preview party continues to be a highlight of London’s Summer social calendar. Opening the doors to the world’s most joyful art exhibition, guests including; Claudia Winkleman, Damson Idris, Jennifer Saunders, Lashana Lynch, Mabel, Micheal Ward, Neneh Cherry, Nick Grimshaw, Sheila Atim and Vick Hope, were joined alongside some of the world’s many leading artists and architects to celebrate art and creativity.
Within the Royal Academy’s Annenberg Courtyard, on arrival guests were greeted by the enjoyable rhythms of a New York brass band, followed by the vibrant energy of a solid steel band.
